DJ Shawn, born Oluwaseun Oresile Joshua on June 22, 1998, in Ogun State, Nigeria, is a DJ, producer, and rising figure in the country’s club and Afropop music scene. Growing up in Festac Extension, Lagos, he was exposed to music at a young age, assisting in his older brother’s recording studio and teaching himself DJing techniques online. His early involvement in studio sessions laid the foundation for a career that spans DJing, music production, and performance.
Shawn began performing in Lagos clubs in the early 2010s, gaining recognition for his versatile and energetic sets. He hosted radio programs, including City FM 105’s HipHop Ride, and became a resident DJ at venues such as W Bar in Ikoyi. By 2019, he joined Rhythm 93.7 FM, further solidifying his presence in the Nigerian music circuit.
His first major single, O Pari (2021), featuring Falz and Timaya, brought him national attention, charting on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100. This was followed by Baddest (2022), featuring L.A.X and Reekado Banks, and in 2024, Lifestyle with Pheelz, Falz, and Magnito. In late 2023, he released his debut EP Awesome, a six-track project blending Afrobeat, Amapiano, Afrohouse, and hip-hop, featuring high-profile artists such as Blaqbonez, KiDi, Bella Shmurda, Niniola, Magixx, L.A.X, and Reekado Banks.
Known for his genre-crossing sets and production style, DJ Shawn blends Afrobeat rhythms, Amapiano textures, Afrohouse beats, hip-hop, dancehall, and electronic elements. He emphasizes creating uplifting and danceable music, often drawing inspiration spontaneously.
His achievements include millions of streams across his releases, national radio play, and winning the Red Bull Spin It Loud DJ competition in February 2025, where he impressed judges with technical skill and crowd engagement. Beyond music releases, DJ Shawn performs at high-profile events and TV shows, helping elevate DJs as central contributors to Nigeria’s music culture.
With a blend of talent, versatility, and an eye on global club and Afropop trends, DJ Shawn continues to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s leading young DJs, bridging traditional Afrobeat foundations with contemporary dance and electronic styles.
